Things to Do in Karjat: Caves, Forts, Waterfalls & More

Karjat is famous among weekend travellers for its proximity to the Western Ghats and the variety of activities within a short radius of town. Whether you enjoy history, gentle treks, waterfall dips, or a day at a theme park, there is something nearby.

1. Kondana Caves (16 km)

These ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves sit at the base of Rajmachi fort. In the monsoon the path beside them turns into a small waterfall, and the trek up is gentle enough for beginners. It is one of the most atmospheric historic sites near Karjat.

2. Peth Fort / Kothaligad (24 km)

A conical hill fort whose standout feature is a staircase carved through the rock pinnacle itself. The summit rewards you with sweeping views over the Konkan side of the hills.

3. Bhivpuri Waterfalls (18 km)

A monsoon favourite, Bhivpuri is known for water rappelling and natural plunge pools fed by the rains. Visit between July and October when the water is at its best.

4. Matheran Hill Station (28 km)

Asia's only automobile-free hill station, Matheran is reachable on foot, horseback or its heritage toy train. It is an easy and scenic half-day or full-day trip from Karjat.

5. Imagicaa Theme Park (12 km)

India's largest theme park is a 20-minute drive from the resort, offering roller coasters, a water park and a snow park for families with children.
